Científicos del Departamento de Epidemiología y Prevención del IRCCS Neuromed detallaron que además provocan un 26% más de riesgo de muerte. Los expertos analizaron por 8 años los hábitos alimenticios y las condiciones de salud de más de 22 mil voluntarios.
Pueden que sean sabrosos pero los alimentos ultraprocesados, tales como la comida chatarra y las bebidas gaseosas, son peligrosos para la salud y un nuevo estudio realizado por expertos italianos viene a reforzar aún más la amenaza que consumirlos representa.
En esta investigación, los científicos del Departamento de Epidemiología y Prevención del IRCCS Neuromed demostraron que ingerir estos alimentos aumenta en un 58% las probabilidades de sufrir una enfermedad cardíaca y en un 26% el riesgo de morir.
Para llegar estas conclusiones, analizaron por 8 años los hábitos alimenticios y las condiciones de salud de más de 22 mil voluntarios que participan en el Proyecto Moli-sani, iniciativa que comenzó en el 2005 y que busca conocer los factores ambientales y genéticos que subyacen a ciertas enfermedades.
Los expertos sostienen que el principal culpable podría ser el azúcar, ya que los alimentos ultraprocesados poseen grandes cantidades. Sin embargo, reconocen que la respuesta es probablemente más compleja e incluiría a otros factores que tienen más incidencia.
“El exceso de azúcar juega un papel, pero representa sólo el 40% del aumento del riesgo de muerte. Nuestra idea es que un rol importante lo desempeña el propio procesamiento industrial, capaz de inducir modificaciones profundas en la estructura y composición de los nutrientes”, manifestó el autor del artículo y epidemiólogo Augusto Di Castelnuovo, según consigna Daily Mail.
